On August 7, 2024, DPNet Nepal, as the Secretariat of NPDRR, coordinated a meeting to prepare for the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) 2024. Key stakeholders, including representatives from NDRRMA and MoHA, discussed the importance of advancing disaster risk reduction (DRR) in alignment with the Sendai Framework's 2030 goals. The meeting emphasized the need for sustainable investments, technology integration, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. Decisions included forming a preparatory committee, drafting a position paper, and raising funds. The meeting concluded with a call for a unified representation of Nepal's DRR efforts at APMCDRR 2024.
On July 15, 2024, DPNet Nepal, in collaboration with DiMaNN and NCDMC, organized a discussion to engage Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) networks. The event, facilitated by Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa, addressed recent disasters in Nepal and emphasized coordination among stakeholders. Dr. Raju Thapa highlighted the resilience of networks like DPNet, DiMaNN, and NCDMC, urging collaboration with development partners. Discussions covered grassroots-level advocacy, challenges in DRR governance, and the need for improved collaboration. Participants also stressed integrating DRR into broader development efforts and highlighted the importance of local and international partnerships.
On July 2nd 2024, DPNet Nepal organized a virtual program for the APMCDRR Preparatory Meeting. The meeting was graced by the presence of Mr. Anil Pokhrel, Executive Chief of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), and Dr. Bhisma Kumar Bhusal, Chief of the Disaster Management Division, Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA)a and was attended by various stakeholders and member organizations of DPNet with about 60 participants.
On June 28, 2024, DPNet Nepal organized an interaction program on Establishing Media Beats Dedicated to DRR and International Lightening Safety Day. The discussion program was attended by prominent media personalities, NGOs, INGOs, UN agencies and other stakeholders. The program was facilitated by DPNet IPP, Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa. Mr. Thapa explains that the interaction session aims for strategic planning meeting for DRR media beats as well as International Lightning Day. He stressed the current ongoing issues such as heat waves, monsoons, floods, and landslides. Mr. Thapa emphasized the role of the media in raising awareness, sensitizing the public, and informing authorities.
On June 18, 2024, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Communication, and Law of Madhesh Province organized a workshop on the "Madhesh Province Monsoon Preparedness and Response Plan 2081" at Mithila Yatri Niwas, Janakpurdham, with support from DPNet and other partners. The event, chaired by Mr. Birendra Kumar Yadav and attended by Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh, involved 94 participants from various sectors. The workshop aimed to discuss strategies for monsoon preparedness and response. Key presentations highlighted past monsoon-related disasters, current efforts, and future plans. Emphasis was placed on collaboration, risk assessment, early warning systems, community involvement, and sustainable practices. The importance of training youth in disaster management was also stressed. The workshop concluded with commitments to refine and implement the Monsoon Preparedness and Response Plan based on feedback received.
On June 7, 2024, DPNet Nepal organized the DPNet Nepal's 28th Anniversary program via a virtual Zoom meeting. The program was attended by more than 60 participants. Mr. Suraj Gautam, General Secretary, DPNet Nepal moderated the event and welcomed all participants. The event was chaired by Dr. Raju Thapa, chairperson of DPNet Nepal.
